so I managed to clean up some vacuum tubes and create this necklace out of the best of the tubes I had. Why did i have tubes ? gods and green fish might know... I can't remember.
So this particular tube is only a bit over 5cm long - just about 2 inches. I decided to make a chain for it - using various bits of standard, modern hardware - but I think it works. It's kind of nice to make something that isn't clock/ watch related. I've posted it up at etsy.. and its had an amazing amount of hits in a day. dunno what that was all about.
I suspect it will sell soon
anyway, I gotta make a post here - probably tomorrow.
yes.. can't wait for summer yard sales!! wheeeeeeee! I'm not on a treasury yet. I wonder if someone just happens to want it and keeps looking at it over and over again. lol
they are really sturdy actually. You can drop them on the floor from about 5'3" or so (my height) lol i'd only dropped it 3 or 8 times so far making it.
I do worry if someone did something stupid like try and light it on fire or run a current through it - but then I suppose I can't worry about stupidity really.
the glass has to be pretty thick to keep the "vacuum" under control. As well it isn't really a total vacuum.. esp after i've bent the pins. There is always a bit of leakage. I think given the age of these ones - prob from the 70s it is unlikely to still be perfectly sealed.
This is rather cool. The vacuum tube is interesting enough in itself not to need excessive embellishment, so the chain you've created for it is about perfect - decorative without being overwhelming. Nice.
