Navigating the Stars

Description

It is difficult to begin to describe this piece. Like many of my pieces it feels like it tells a story. I can imagine a pilot navigating their Bi-plane against a starfield where planets gleam and shooting stars cross the sky.

First it is made from an old end-of-life pocket watch back that is a light golden-brass. There are two "comets" of gears flying through the air, some tiny stars and a larger dark star. I've also used a 2nd wheel shaped like a star in the area that just seems to be made just for it.

There's also a 3-pronged balance wheel - that silver wheel - which once made a fine wrist watch go tick! I've placed a metal hand from a different watch in the balance wheel that points to the center so that you may never lose your way home.

Below a beautiful pewter-coloured Bi-plane flies through the air. I've added some steel gears to it as well.

I know it sounds funny but I even like the screws in this piece because they have a delicate, dark shine.

It's wonderful, and I love how the plane is linked to the stop watch with a gear. Very clever!
