Mythological Steampunk jewelry by clockwork-zero Mythological Steampunk jewelry by clockwork-zero
I finally put this one on my jewelry site: [link]
the design took a while to make actually. Lots of little details had to be worked out. The chain - not shown here - is really cool. You can see it on the link above.

Description
This steampunk necklace has a very Victorian feel. The intricate pattern looks floral and the custom chain came out perfectly. The antiqued silvery scarab has some wonderful detail that looks a bit more art deco than Victorian, but to me, Steampunk suggests a meld and reworking of many styles.

In mythology the scarab pushed the sun across the sky (though reality was they pushed balls of dung - heh). So above we have our "sun" represented by a larger brass gear taken from a clock winding mechanism. The lovely silver scarab which really wouldn't be complete without the addition of a tiny watch gear which you can see in the macro photo. Another clock gear dangles beneath the scarab.

I've added behind the scarab a wonderful dark bronze-tone metal stamping. The pattern fit almost perfectly against a brass clock gear - echoing the shape the scarab's arms. :D

Oh wow, I love this very much, the mixture of an Egyptian concept behind a steampunk piece is such a nice thought, it gives it a wave of additional originality.

Would you mind if I used this as inspiration for a drawing?

Love the story of the symbolism in this piece.

" but to me, Steampunk suggests a meld and reworking of many styles " - SAME TO ME.
