Artist's Comments

I started mixing media in this piece - the dark base is wood... which really allows a very sturdy and Light base. I love wood - and this is a nice warm-black colour.

Ever since I was a child I loved reading about Egytian history. I always thought the idea of a scarab pushing the sun across the sky was a beautiful thought! (how disappointing to learn the real beetles push a dung ball across the desert!). ;)

The silver-tone beetle below is flanked on either side by two main wheels taken from a very old pocket watch. Then we have a great winged-sun - have a look at the detail! You can see the two snakes that flank each side near the small wings. Above, is a small brass watch gear that represents the sun.

I really like this one. Has a sort of formal, classy, simple look to it, but still not so simple as to stop making you want to stare at it for a long time. The black 'base' really adds an awesome contrast to the whole thing; makes it stand out. ^_^ Amazing.

Every story has a moral... The moral of Alice in Wonderland you ask?
Don't do acid.

A little simple, but less cluttered, than what you usually submit.

yes! I think that is quite a fair comment. I seem to waver between simple and then crazy. sigh. or is that my life?
but seriously, it is the "canvas" of the wood that allows the spacing unike most of the pieces.

and thank you again Random-Star...
i'm just catching up this morning on my comments. sigh. I need to create more time to get to all the things I should do.

I'm really happy with the idea of the base - but it was my 11 yr old niece that inspired it.

Family always does seem to be the best inspiration in most cases.
