I started mixing media in this piece - the dark base is wood... which really allows a very sturdy and Light base. I love wood - and this is a nice warm-black colour.
Ever since I was a child I loved reading about Egytian history. I always thought the idea of a scarab pushing the sun across the sky was a beautiful thought! (how disappointing to learn the real beetles push a dung ball across the desert!).  The silver-tone beetle below is flanked on either side by two main wheels taken from a very old pocket watch. Then we have a great winged-sun - have a look at the detail! You can see the two snakes that flank each side near the small wings. Above, is a small brass watch gear that represents the sun. |

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. i'm just catching up this morning on my comments. sigh. I need to create more time to get to all the things I should do.
I'm really happy with the idea of the base - but it was my 11 yr old niece that inspired it.
