I finally got a hold of some of the beetle wings I had once seen - "green Jewel Beetle" wings - Family Buprestidae!
I have been wanting to make something with real wings for a long long time - but I've not had much luck - collect some from various found insects - but when I found some of these I was so excited. silly, eh? Then it was a matter of putting it all together - and figuring things out. I haven't uploaded it to my etsy site yet. It will likely go up tomorrow. I'm so excited. They are fairly delicate but tough enough that I had to drill holes in them to get the jump rings in. lol. yes... that's what i did on my day off. Drilled holes in beetle wings. Boy, i feel like i'm certifiable now. In this photo you can see her wings are spread open - though normally they will be a bit more closed when someone is wearing her. |
