wow.. a big day for deviations for me! work is slow!!
Once upon a time I collected coins and I've decided to present a few in my jewelry. I thought it would be a nice way to share some of these coins. This one, a three pence, is very fine. I've made sure to mount it in a brass piece that will not damage it.
So, as you can see the coin is in wonderful condition. The date, 1916, is clear, and frames the large number 3. It hangs from a garnet that is set in silver. I've used a very large gear that is from a clock. The large gear has a few minor scratches but is very shiny and quite bright.
1916 was the year of the Fire Dragon - an event that occurs every 50 years (1976 was the next). The first World War was underway. The Battle of Verdun in WW I happened. Einstein's Theory of General Relativity was presented. The 1st published reference to "jazz" appeared and the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup.

I love coins.. and i've used old coins in a few commissions but this one is really nice. I have a few from that time period and some larger ones from 1890's.
